Our journey, our story

At FIFO Traveller, we believe in sharing the real experiences of life on the road and in remote sites across Australia. Discover the inspiration behind our brand and how we're building a community.

From mechanic to FIFO traveller

After more than a decade as a mechanic and interstate driver, including 18 months working on an island fixing buses, cars and the odd boat my journey took me across Australia and through a wide range of industries.

I worked on off-highway trucks and heavy equipment in the Bowen Basin, fixing everything from dozers and excavators to graders and dump trucks. Looking for a change, I later headed to Albany, Western Australia, where I returned to working on and driving road trains throughout the region. But it was a bit fresh for me at the time.

From there, I made my way to Mossman in North Queensland for the cane season, repairing and driving trucks transporting cane to the mill.

Then after a short stint at a mineral sand mine near Pooncarie, I moved onto a Gold Mine, a little closer to home and where I first began working on drill rigs.

To be honest, I never expected to finish that probationary period letter knowing it would become a long-term career. However, wanting to be around my son during his early years, I stuck with it and grew to enjoy the challenges of drill rigs.

I then went onto east west FIFO and, in 2018, took six months off to travel Australia — an experience that only strengthened my passion for life on the road and exploring this great country.

Later, I spent four years living locally in Western Australia’s Murray region. It sounded a lot like home back in the Riverina, so had to be good, right? It turned out to be a wonderful place to live, where I met some great people and made lifelong friends. During that time, my son even transferred with Cummins and joined me in WA, spending two years working as a FIFO field service fitter.

But the desire to continue exploring and experiencing more of Australia never left. Today, while continuing my FIFO career in Western Australia, I’m still working on drill rigs, travelling Australia, and embracing the lifestyle that ultimately inspired FIFO Traveller.

There’s a hell of a lot in between all that, but that’s stories for the campfires and shirts.

Our mission: supporting the FIFO lifestyle

FIFO Traveller was created to support people living the grind, travelling and adventure lifestyle.

Our goal is simple: do our job well, help others where we can, and build a community based on respect, humour and shared experiences.

Whether it’s offering practical advice, sharing lessons learned from life on the road, lending an ear when times get tough, or simply having a laugh, FIFO Traveller aims to bring people together.

We believe that everyone has something worth sharing, and that the journey is always better when it’s shared with others.

What makes FIFO Traveller different

FIFO Traveller isn’t about polished highlight reels or pretending that life on the road is always easy.

It’s about the real experiences of everyday Australians who choose a different way of living — the highs, the hard work, the challenges, the humour and everything in between.

Built by an Aussie worker and full-time traveller, FIFO Traveller shares honest experiences, practical travel gear and tools that simply work, and apparel inspired by the stories, lessons and laughs collected along the way.

Because life on the road isn’t always cruisy — but life is an adventure worth living.

It’s not all the sparkles you see and hear. Life on the road isn’t always easy. But with hard work and some perseverance come experiences, adventures, friends and opportunities that make it all worthwhile. Keep chasing the next adventure, because there’s always another road to travel and another story for the campfire.

Work. Travel. Adventure. Repeat.

Dream it. Test it. Decide.
